2 major banks have now increased their variable lending rates for residential investment lending. Rates have increased by 0.27%. It is expected that more will follow . In addition to increasing the variable rates, the lenders are also reducing the loan to security ratios (LVR’s) to 80% for residential investment lending
These changes come after Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) is forcing banks to slow growth in the residential investor market to less than 10%. This has led the banks tightening their lending criteria for investors borrowings.
Also it is seen that some major lenders are also now reducing their fixed mortgage rates, so it may be an opportune time to revisit your current loans and consider a mix of variable and fixed.
